SUNDAY 26th
Matthew 2:1-12
NIV (v11) ‘On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him.’
ESV (v11) ‘And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him.
Yes, I know it is Sunday, but again for this Christmas weekend I want to bring a short Sunday devotion. The carol I have chosen today is another well-known one and favourite of many, O come all ye faithful.
O come, all ye faithful,
Joyful and triumphant!
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem;
Come and behold him
Born the King of Angels:
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.
God of God,
Light of Light,
Lo, he abhors not the Virgin’s womb;
Very God,
Begotten, not created:
Sing, choirs of angels,
Sing in exultation,
Sing, all ye citizens of Heaven above!
Glory to God
In the highest:
Yea, Lord, we greet thee,
Born this happy morning;
Jesus, to thee be glory given!
Word of the Father,
Now in flesh appearing!
The message today is simple and clear, it is still the ’Lord’s Day’, and even though it is the holiday season, some may still be able to get to a place of worship, others may not owing to holiday arrangements or commitments, but it is still our responsibility to take the instruction from the chorus, ‘O come, let us adore Him, O come, let us adore Him, O come, let us adore Him, Christ the Lord.’
The shepherds went to find him and worship, the wise men went to find him and worship him, no doubt others who soon heard the news as to who this baby was probably went to worship him, and we who have come to know him, not just as a baby in the manger, the man who went about doing good, and as the one who took our place on the Cross, we know him as the resurrected Christ, we know him as the one who has been given a name which is above every other name, we know him as the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords, we know him as our friend, we know him as our Saviour, and with desire in our hearts we ‘come and join the faithful, to worship the Lord’ ‘O come, let us adore him, for he is worthy, Christ the Lord.’
Even if you are not going to a place of worship, this morning, make some time, take some time out to ‘worship Christ the Lord’ for he alone is worthy.
