Devotion February 9th

WEDNESDAY 9th

Psalm 119:55 ‘I remember your name in the night, O LORD, and keep your law.’

I have chosen to use this verse today, for I believe it is a timely reminder that we can lean on the Word of God and the promises it contains all the time. We don’t have to limit our reading and meditation upon it just in the morning or sometime during the day when we may do a daily devotion, we can think upon and meditate upon it in the night. Those moments perhaps when sleep escapes you and you start to think about counting the sheep, can be times when instead you set your thoughts on the Word of God and allow it to come and to speak in the night watch to your soul, and if you fall asleep while doing this well, not to worry, you will have slept knowing the last thought you had in your heart and on your mind was the Word of God!

It may be you will just call to memory what you may have read that day, and in the silence of the night you can ask God to allow it to speak into your soul, it may be a Scripture that has blessed you at some time in the past and as you recall it again it will bless you again for God’s Word is a living Word and it is a powerful Word and it will minister to your soul. Notice the psalmist says, ‘I remember your word’, he isn’t saying he is getting the scrolls and opening them up, which would require the candle to be lit to give him the light to read it, which in turn if he was married would disturb his partner! No, he ‘remembers’, he recalls to his mind that which he has already read previously, no need to disturb anyone else, just his thoughts, God’s remembered Word and the presence of God. What a way to go to sleep, not lying-in bed with anxious thoughts, worrying about tomorrow, but meditating upon the promises of God.
